The 100 Day Project The Halfway mark

The 100 Day Project 2024 - Half way through and in full swing over here. Still curious!

I have been enjoying this year’s project and have aptly named it “A Project in Pieces” I have finally and fully accepted that I work best in short bursts of creative energy. It takes my mind out of the equation and lets me create without thinking. It only has to be 10 minutes, but as always I am amazed at what can be created quickly in a limited time. It’s me in my Zen state.

I have fallen back into some of my old habits which is what my project is most definitely NOT about. I do allow myself to go there as it is a trustworthy process and sometimes I just need to start with what I know. It’s way less pressure..

The goal of my project is to always be creating something new or expanding upon something new to me. It can be a new way of creating marks or just different results on different kinds of paper, but I try to do something different every time. This is what keeps the project fresh for me.

I have re-discovered acrylic inks and I am enjoying their interaction with both water-colour and acrylic paint. I work best on large cheap drawing paper - it allows me to be free, it allows me space for gestural marks, it works well all cut up for collage work and finally, did I mention, it is Inexpensive…This paper is for experimental purposes!

I am deep in Line work. Thick, thin, overlapping, transparency - add some granulation in and some mix and mingling between mediums and I am one happy gal. Nothing makes me more excited than an unexpected result.

This year has me full on in my Art Journal. I have been creating papers and trying different palettes, marks and cut outs on for size. I am Loving my pages, they are pretty inspirational (if I do say so myself) I have that perfectly uneasy feeling about them which I take as a sign that they are up to something good. There is something that excites me about them and honestly, I love my handmade sketchbooks so the two together are a perfect partnership.

My purpose, as always, for this project is to generate ideas and lots of them. Not all are great and I discard many, but there is always something that I just Love and want to do over and over again. This year also has me thinking in a new way as I jump into teaching workshops - I need to be able to relay all of this information back to you. I need to be able to explain, demonstrate, inspire and encourage you. It’s an interesting process, but I am loving it.

There you have it!

Speaking of Workshops, I currently have two on the go.
