TRAVEL TOOL KIT

I love the new and different perspective that comes with travel. New sights and sounds, a new culture and new experiences. As I get older, I will admit that along with travel, there is also a slight increase in anxiety that joins in uninvited. Nothing ever seems to go exactly as planned! A travel/creative kit has become an essential item for me for life on the road. It is my Time Out.

Essentials include:

PAPER: An assortment of paper from watercolor to mixed media.I like to keep mine loose as it often gets cut up later for collage pieces for my creative journal.

WATERCOLORS: Easy, no fuss, little mess. All you need is a small spray bottle, an assortment of brushes and a spot for color mixing. I use the palette provided on my box and I also bring along a few pieces of palette paper. It dries nicely and can easily be re-activated.

MIXED MEDIA : An assortment of water activated mixed media tools. Watercolor Crayons - my favorite and well worth the investment are the Caron D’Ache brand. Watercolor markers and pencils. Inktense pencils. Gel sticks (Gelatoes). All are activated by water and add a lovely hard or soft edge to your work.

EXTRAS: Extras include a pencil and pen. Some rags or paper towels.

I use the backing of a watercolor pad as my hard surface to attach my paper to (I store my loose paper within a watercolor pad) This is optional, but often I like to be out and about and this all adds to the ease of it. A big clip or art tape helps keep everything in place. Otherwise, find yourself a small table within your space and set up! It’s nice to keep your materials on hand and readily available.

Just enough Color to keep me satisfied!

Keeping a travel sketchbook offers a unique way to document your travels beyond what photographs can convey. It encourages mindfulness, allowing you to slow down and observe details that might otherwise be overlooked. It is a wonderful means to capture the feel of a place - the hustle and bustle of city life or the ebb and flow of life on a tropical island. Think colors, textures and patterns or think about the movement and feel…

I have another Blogpost on keeping a Travel Sketchbook for your reading and viewing entertainment. Lots more to come! I have a family that loves to travel and I am always game to be brought along for the ride. Reach out if you have any questions!

Keep Easy!
